Introduction into ethnological research concerning the rise and evolution of political institutions, with a particular attention to the issue of “transition”. Presentation of socio-historical facts as a contribution to the Political Anthropology on the basis of field work and research in a specific region in Western Africa.

This draft document is written in the tradition of Meyer Fortes, who insisted upon empirical evidence in order to generate analyses of society. It start out of the moulds of understanding published in the classical volume “African Political Systems” (1940), written and edited by Meyer Fortes and Evans-Pritchard, which established the principles of segmentation and balanced interdependence, as the basic theoretical model, on which traditional African political systems have been built.
